And here's finished #watercolor with background added+ earlier version with just open background. I think I prefer the earlier version, but it has been an interesting experiment to paint in the background
A challenge of #watercolors for me is what to do with background? Leave blank? I like the creamy white of paper. But I think most people want something to ground it in the surroundings.
@Potato86887291 @nevusmom @RebeccaGrambo I have a little salt/pepper set from grandma's garage sale finds. It's a treasure, because she's there in my memory every time I use it 2/2

Finally finished this #watercolor I mostly painted in June 2021. Trying to finish paintings rather than get stuck.
11x14" Arches 140lb cold press block, Winsor & Newton pigments
A friend bought a new house, so I painted a postcard of bread + salt to wish her luck (I'm told a German custom to bring bread and salt as a housewarming gift)
Portrait now has both eyes, @PamJohns6 (no more pirate!)
Trying to do face with strongly side angled light & shadows from late sun, but not loving result. Deep shadows on right got overworked/muddy.
Still trying to decide on background (or not)
Overnight, my work was pirated!!!
Stopped painting last night with one eye unfinished. Found out this morning that my #watercolor portrait was pirated!
Who could have done this, @ted_dunning ?
Interesting article on what x-ray fluorescent imaging can reveal about what the artist actually painted

Took a short break from work & painted a bunny in my new watercolor sketchbook (brand is Hahnemühle). Paper very different than I'm used to. Excellent that the book lays open flat.
