Although minor, I like how this episode begins to widen the world and the narrative by proving that there are indeed foreigners amogus, that they mean us harm /and/ that Alex is unperturbed by this fact

Equally interesting is that this episode's megadeus is named Eumenides, which are "female chthonic deities of vengeance in ancient Greek religion and mythology."

It's... on point.

Interesting to note that Dan goes to Amadeus' during all this. That's interesting because he told Roger back in episode 6 that he hasn't been there since Roger quit the force. It's been years at least.

In a deep twist of fate, by the end of the episode Dan chooses duty as the defining attribute of his humanity--which leads to the death of Sybil (who also chooses duty which leads to the death of a hundred others [thousands if she had gotten her way]).

This meta-horror takes a toll on Dan who up to this point was courageous and resolute--but he's now losing sleep, fears he might be hallucinating, and is suffering from paranoia.

That even extends to the final scene of the episode, with supposedly young Dan and young Sybil watching Winter Night Phantom together (which is appropriately the name of the movie and the episode)

I immediately want to point this out because I never noticed it before and it made me gasp: the window frame (which also happens to be the title card of the episode) matches the matting of the Winter Night Phantom film, and these two scenes follow one another
