Issue 4 is low key one of the most important issues of the FF....it's the first retcon of Marvel comics people. BREATH IT IN.
I note this here and this is not the last issue this is going to get noted at but Marvel in general always treated it's heroes more cynically, while you will get stories where civilians are thankful....you also get stories.....
For now though the first issue established a couple things
*the FF are not like other superheroes
*the FF have interpersonal drama between them and bicker.
This was NEW stuff to readers at the time. THe FF can be a breath of fresh air.
We also get the origin straight out, now to note some early elements that would get dropped the MOST major one is Ben Grimm being in love with Susan, while the FF would INDULGE in love triangle stuff this one WOULD GET DROPPED HARD.
they gather and we meet for the first time the FF...sans costume, one thing Stan and Jack was kind of ahead on was the idea of just using civilian clothing as the costumes, but this would change. Still this is the FF together for the first time.
The Challengers of the Unknown, a comic about a group of adventurers fighting weird shit, now a days many people consider it a prototype to the FF and that is no unfair, but it's hard to say how much Stan knew of it.
Even the comic that introduced his daughter and all that had him go back to being a criminal and back to business.
he's my stand in for characters who are in the movies but not actually really adapted at all. Cass Cain is another good example but they go into this pile. The dude is KG beast https://t.co/mQiNbVxVEL
