I think with comics from Marvel or DC color is expected, because well there a company, not independent artists, you should be able to shell out money for a colorist! This isn't to say the view is good I'm just pointing it out.

One aspect I think gets overlooked is disability, or the need for help, take cyclops needing special glasses, Rogue having issues with touching people, or various drawbacks some characters have, making it a good disability metaphor or help metaphor.

Superboy up there IS A REALLY bad example. For one he's a newer character, and that was just his look, he was also molded on popular trends for Superehero costumes(look at cyclops in a jacket from jim Lee) and people tend to like both his looks.

So if you read House of M for Wanda/Vision, this is not a story I would recommend what I would recommend instead are the Scarlet Witch Vision series, and Her classic avengers stories. BECAUSE GUESS WHAT? Like the Show, THEY LET HER BE A FUCKING CHARACTER

Bendis on his Avengers run while writing her was basically working ON a character who did not exist anymore, he basically derailed her hard as a character and here's the thing after these stories, Wanda was gone...for nearly decade.
