@ruby_ruberri To prove once and for all the immense impact of Genma Taisen still had, a big-budget animated movie was made in 1983 by director Rintaro and manga artist Katsuhiro Otomo, adapting the original manga and the first 3 novels and hailed as a technical marvel for its time.

@ruby_ruberri The original Genma Taisen was developed for Shonen Magazine, slightly after Ishinomori concluded the Underground Empire of Yomi arc, at the time believed to be the end of his Cyborg 009 series. It was envisioned as one of the most ambitious projects for both Ishinomori and Hirai.

@ruby_ruberri Like many shows from that era, Robocon was a product of media mix. Which means a manga and TV show were produced independently at the same time. Ishinomori penned 2 different Robocon manga. The first run in Shonen Sunday had a wacky, loose art style aimed at older readers.

@ruby_ruberri Ishinomori became really busy due to the transforming hero boom. At some point, he decided his next hero would be different. It's said he appeared in front of his fan club with a design similar to a snowman and told them "This is going to be my next hero. It's going to be cute!"

While Konno worked with Ishimori Pro on several different projects, there's a lot of his artwork featuring Ishinomori properties that were never shown outside of very limited media. I would love to see it all collected in a single art book. Here's just a few examples of these:

@ruby_ruberri A little edit to the art. Chiko's pet mouse and dog are named Shiro and Kuro, after the colors of their fur. So even if Shiro doesn't appear in color in any of the covers, it's safe to assume his fur is white like in his name! Here's the fixed colors by @ruby_ruberri
