Because of her fondness for alcohol, she became known as Shuten-douji “the little drunkard.”

One night there was a festival at the temple & Shuten dōji showed up very drunk. She put on an oni mask and went around playing pranks on her fellow priests.

She slacked off on her studies as a result and got into fights.

She also fell into drinking, which was forbidden to monks; however she could out-drink anyone and everyone who was willing to sit down and drink against her.

At age six, even her own mother abandoned her. Orphaned, she became an apprentice priest at Mt. Hiei in Kyoto.

Naturally, she was the strongest and smartest of the young acolytes, and she grew resentful of them as well.
