Ayumi is somewhat abrasive with a rough exterior but deep down she is quite sweet. For her I went for a princess/goddess sort of look because that is how she would imagine as a powerful appearance.
Donna is very sporty and is involved in several sports teams at her school. For her outfit I wanted to really invoke that sort of sports outfit with a hero twist.
As with the Game Grumps in part 1, I added the likeness of Kevin Smith into my comic as he was also a major inspiration for me to make the comics I wanted to make. I also based his teacher outfit on Koro-sensei's from Assassination Classroom for fun, haha.
It's a constant struggle to prevent myself from doing 4th wall breaking jokes, but I just gotta do it sometimes, okay?
That being said, even though I like this gag I kinda wish I didn't do it because it heavily implies that the strength/power from being a Petal is a 24/7 sort of thing which I don't really agree with, but I guess I made it canon so whatayagonnado?
I think the series really kicks off with part 2. I think the gags start to really work and the story really starts to take form.
As far as titles for each installment goes, this one is my least favorite, but even now I don't think I could come up with a better one.
Confession time: When I first conceived of the story I intended for all the girls and Riley to have the more typical MSG lacy/frilly type of outfits for their transformations, but I didn't have the talent and couldn't make it work. This panel was the closet I could get.
Cyndi wasn't in the original one-shot version, it was just a unattributed prophecy of some sort, but I kept the same gag. I also liked bringing this line back up later in the series to make it more fun.
In the background on page 5 I snuck in the Game Grumps @egoraptor and Danny. Because of them I felt encouraged to write comics so as a thanks I put them in it. I likely wont do something like this in the future but I may not have made this comic without them so they get a pass.
