the font matching here only slightly hurts me

oh my god. this game uses 16x16 tiles for the text, but they're using a font that's 8x16

so the obvious solution is COMPOSE ALL SETS OF 2 LETTERS YOU USE!

it's super common and I love it. it's a little window into the realities of how the screenshots were made.
