Wario is tough and freaking strong. As a result enemies need weapons, spikes or other kinds of attacks to even harm him, unlike Mario, who can be hurt by even a Goomba just touching him.
It also leads to Wario having far more physical moves than to just jump on enemies.
WarioWare Touched had a interesting idea for wallpapers.
In Yoshi's Island DS, Baby Wario's special ability was his magnet. Then in Mario Super Sluggers, which has YIDS content in the form of Baby DK, Wario has a magnet once more.
I like the implication that he kept the thing all the way into his adult years.
Waluigi would genuinely fit as the main character of a Wrecking Crew revival.
He likes explosives and eggplants, had a Wrecking Crew remix as a personal theme and was basically a Foreman Spike reference already in Mario Kart DS.
I like to think Wario has a sixth sense for when something unflattering happens to Mario.
Pops up out of nowhere to laugh about it in the background and then leaves.
I feel confident that there likely wasn't an intentional reference there, but Mario Kart Arcade GP DX giving Wario a hulking, bull themed special kart does fit very well.
A design detail that I really like is Merelda really does look like a human queen Merfle. There is quite a bit of design overlap, unlike say, Peach, who has nothing in her design that visually links her to the Toads.

The Wario sign in Mario Kart 64's Wario Stadium uses the old-school font that was used for all things Wario in his first couple years.
