I used a gamut mask to determine a complimentary palette for this owl/heart illustration.

Get the base colors, make two light and two dark value variants of them, and then color pick only from it. It makes using broken color easier—you know choices won’t clash.

My stuffs been getting too stiff. So I’m gonna spend the day doodling random shit and shaking off some burnout.

Pencils, inks, wash.

Inks are done. Washes are starting. This piece is lighter on lines and will largely use washes to define the planes of the face.

I leaned heavier on the washes than I usually do, so I did a quick edit and toned down the amount of feathering and hatching for this one.

If the lines are heavy, your wash should be light. If the wash is heavy, you may want to hold back on how much lifting your lines do, IMO.
