@YinShon This one is for sure Uekawa because it's from Sonic channel and all the Sonic channel character portraits are by him
@VersaDile There's very clear differences here between these two drawings from completely different eras. Artists go through different phases and change things up all the time.
@contxtsonic @TAS_is_cool Sonic Team held an internal competition to redesign Sonic for the new era of gaming. Remember that artists like Uekawa are told to draw a certain way when doing art for promotional purposes like this.
@Viperphoenix1 He's always had a buckle on his shoes since the classic days. They were sometimes off-colored white though
Thanks for all the positive reactions to this thread everyone I'm glad to be able to share stuff like this. Here's some Uekawa style art of my own. I've taken a lot of time to analyze his style. It's not all I draw but if you'd like to see more feel free to follow!
Now here we are in the late 2010s - 2020s. Sonic is drawn even more angular than before. You can say Uekawas has tried to make Sonic more realistically proportioned.
Now we get to the late 2000s - early 2010s. Sonic is drawn completely differently. Sonic is drawn much more angular. Little angles have been added to places like the hands and socks to make Sonic appear more sharp. The shading has also been very toned down.
Now we branch off into the Advance era of the early 2000s which has the curvyness of the adventure 1/2 styles but goes even further into refining the characters proportions.
In Sonic Adventure 2 the art style has already started to become more refined and Sonic's proportions are more streamlined.
