Matilda Smith (1854-1926): Indian-born British botanical artist who became the first artist to depict New Zealand's flora in depth, the first official artist of The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, and the second woman to become an Associate of The Linnaean Society.

Anne Pratt (1806-1893): English botanical & ornithological illustrator. Her works are in an accurate style that was partly responsible for the popularising of botany in her day. Her books sold well, but she was not acclaimed due to bourgeois disdain for autodidactic women.

Sydney Parkinson (c. 1745-1771): Scottish botanical illustrator & natural history artist; the first European artist to visit Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti (1768). He had to work in difficult conditions: in Tahiti, he was plagued by swarms of flies eating paint as he worked.

Louise von Panhuys (1763-1844): Germanic botanical artist and landscape painter. She went to Surinam and created volumes of botanical specimens; mainly, she painted watercolours of plant specimens, with attention to scientific accuracy.

Johanna Herolt (1668-1723): Germanic botanical artist born into a prominent family of Science & Art. In 1691, she moved to Amsterdam, where she set up a studio painting flowers & botanical subjects. In 1711, she moved to Surinam; paintings various flora there.

Sarah Anne Drake (1803-1857): English botanical illustrator. She acquired the post of governess in the family of John Lindley (1799-1865); English scientist. She became his principal botanical illustrator, as he recognised and appreciated her intelligence and artistic skills.

Ferdinand Bauer (1760-1826): Austrian botanical illustrator who travelled on Matthew Flinders' expedition to Australia (1802-05). He returned to England with 11 cases of drawings containing 1,542 Australian plants, 180 Norfolk Island plants and over 300 animals.
