In 1861, French neurologist Pierre Broca identified a front lobe area of the brain associated with speech. Autopsies of two deceased patients who had lost speech ability revealed neurosyphilitic lesions; demonstrating the area of the brain used for voice muscles.

Dr Laura Forster (1858–1917) was a British colonial neurologist & surgeon. In 1914, she joined the British Red Cross & carried out the first surgical operation by a woman in the war. The extreme demands (20-hour days) & unrelenting war exhausted her: she died from this and flu.

It is interesting that the Anglican hymn 'All Things Bright & Beautiful' was written in 1848, at the peak of The Industrial Revolution (i.e. humans busying themselves in destroying Nature, while the hymn was designed to encourage children to preserve Nature).
