In 1829, Danish novelist Steen Blicher published 'Præsten i Vejlbye' (The Rector of Veilbye). It was based upon an actual murder case in a village in 1626: a rector had been falsely-accused of murder, was tried & executed. Later, the truth came out of witness perjury.
In 1828, a notorious medical scandal was revealed in Edinburgh, Scotland: two men had been murdering people (17) to sell the corpses to a local anatomist. Medical research was not regulated. The scandal led to The Anatomy Act 1832.
