Here are some pages from Hayao Miyazaki's 1982 book Image Boards. This picture book features early production illustrations from Pippi Longstockings, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke and more. It's a terrific document of the artist & deserves 2B published in the West.

I really loved Captain Marvel, and this cements my belief that the best superhero movies are the origin stories. This is such a terrific 90s story, full of wit and wisecracking ala Daria, with a strong emphasis on characters, pacing, story. Definitely "A" tier Marvel for me.

Finally saw #AvengersEndgame tonight. Honestly? Good fun but overrated. There's a lot to like, including the cast (give Robert Downey Jr his Oscar). But there are pacing issues, a sluggish 1st hour, and the story cheats, like a sloppier Back to the Future 2.

The Phantom Menace has glorious widescreen vistas packed with color and detail. It’s a wonderful movie to watch. George Lucas is a master of the anamorphic frame and clean, defined compositions & logical pacing. The influences by Lang, Ford & Kurosawa are all on display.

Hard to believe none of these anime ideas could find funding back then.

Here's a terrific illustration of Jiji the Cat from Kiki's Delivery Service. Fan art is where the heart of the Ghibli fan community lies today, and it's always great to see everyone's unique takes on these classic movies. Great work!

I’m really enjoying the John Bush era of Anthrax lately. I prefer the melodic & classic heavy groove of 90s rock & these albums are criminally underrated.
