Come to think about it, 2021 was a year of "Mechatoku-adjacent stuff made by ex-Gainax people goes full reflexive and asks you to make peace with yourselves" by having both EVANGELION: 3.0+1.0 THRICE UPON A TIME and SSSS.DYNAZENON #10.
Waiting for the ones with Eva pilots and Village 3 folks, but they also got the "Parents who gave birth but didn't raise their kids" gang too.

I also need to mention Akira Senju did the music and prominently featured Origa (RIP) on the vocals, which really makes me sad how low it flew under most people's radars.
10. PRINCESS ARETE
A *moving* reflexive take on the fairy tale genre with that may not be for everyone thanks to its *slow* pacing, but nevertheless artistically awe-inducing and narratively engrossing. This should be a required watch for all animation enthusiasts!
