After what feels like an eternity, I've finally 100%-ed ENDER LILIES last nigh.
You might see me complaining about it, but that's just me being momentarily salty for dying repeatedly, but I genuinely liked this game.
When you compare them side-by-side like this, they look like two entirely different people, lol
Like, I love imagining Eleine as a shy but caring (and kinda creepy at times) neesan figure to Lily, while Julius is a melancholic man of few words, but will absolutely obliterate anything those who are in her way.
This sounds dumb, but it really enhances my enjoyment a lot.
Oh, the whole "associated memories" thing I said didn't come out of nowhere, because the film did that earlier.

We can apply the similar "logic" to comprehend the nature of these scenes. They don't necessarily mean NGE is a part of Rebuild's canon now, but meant to elicit an emotional response upon saying goodbyes to Asuka/Kaworu, with the most memorable memories we associate to these two.
In the end, regardless of who she actually was and has become, she is still someone born with the name "Rei Ayanami", and Shinji admitted that.
Nothing more reassuring than having someone who denied her existence admitted he's wrong, and she's happy with it.
