In 'Louis XIV reçoit dans la Galerie des Glaces de Versailles', we see the reception for the arrival of Mehmet Reza Beg to Versailles on 19 Feb. 1715. The carpet was given to the Persian ambassador by the French King on the 8 Aug. 1715, prior to the Beg's departure.⁠ 5/

Though Thomas Rowlandson lampoons the artist ignoring his family for his creative work in Chamber of Genius, perhaps the scene hits home for working parents during the pandemic!

Congratulations 2020 and 2021 graduates! This portrait of an unknown Graduate of Merton College, Oxford is attributed to George Knapton (c. 1754/1755, ). 1/

Though the embroiderer is unknown, the Cooper Hewitt version features exquisite painted details for the figure of Fame, along with an array of complex stitching to form textured leaves, an eye-catching tomb, and swirling drapery. 3/

Is there anything creepier than animals with human eyes? This copy of the Concert of Cats, now in a private collection after an auction in 2019, certainly supports this idea (Flemish school, 18th century). 1/

Viller's of d'Ognes was initially attributed to Jacques Louis David, but in 1995 Margaret Oppenheimer made a strong case for it to be the work of Villers. 2/
