Never mind the Ides of March, 24th August was a bad date to be Roman. Vesuvius (79AD), Aleric's pillage of Rome (410AD) & the Vandal pillage of Rome (455 AD) all took place OTD. Throw in the Norman sack of Byzantine Thessalonika (1185AD) & its a day to stay in the lectulo.
Even by the standards of a violent age, the atrocity shocked Europe & was depicted in art many times. It was in part the horror story of Famagusta that galvanized the Christian powers into action, leading to the Battle of Lepanto in Oct 1571.

As interesting as Pope Julius II was, his daughter Felice della Rovere deserves more of your attention. Another of those 15th century ladies who didn't let a little thing like gender stop them calling the shots.
The figures in the other, less bellicose scene are harder to place. The King of Abyssinia (Prester John?), is beside a warrior usually given as a Safavid King from Persia. The two western kings are sometimes given as those from England & France.
