Instead of a traditional #artvsartist2021, here's my Brushstrokes vs Ugly Pixelated Ref Photo! :D
These 8 squares are close-ups of some of my paintings. If you'd like, you can play a game: guess which texture each square corresponds to (they're all different)!
I'm always fascinated by what we can get away with as long as the value relationships are roughly accurate -- weird brushstrokes? yup. splashes of saturated colours? no problem! ^^

I've recently had the pleasure of painting this portrait as a commission for a proud dad, and it was such an enjoyable process 🧡💙❤️
My client was specifically interested in the crazy random brushstrokes and colours of some of my portrait paintings, and I was happy to oblige :)
