Beautiful opening of the Chinese animated film THE WARRIOR (Fu Yan & Chen Yue Hui, 2006), about the young Wong Fei-hung having to stop a greedy Westerner from using a magical stone to take over the world.
Written, art directed and action choreographed by Tsui Hark.
Tell me, has your favourite movie changed in the past 10 years? What does it say about your taste in films?
Mine went from Terry Gilliam's BRAZIL (which I still love) to Tsui Hark's THE BLADE. Less into political allegories, more into formal and kinetic experimentation.
@pod_hard @GenreFilmAddict @ShinobiFist And keep an eye out for VALHALLA. It just came out in Scandinavia/Russia. Probably gonna take a couple of months to get to foreign shores.

@puritythrufire @ShinobiFist @KZvonaric @cinema_strikes @FreeStuff1979 @TrashCanDanpt3 @eyevonrass @pod_hard Yes! I mean LOOK AT THIS! Every shot is like a painting. One of the most good-looking films I've ever seen. Combine that with its phantasmal atmosphere, its bizarre elements, and the raw, devastating emotions it delivers, and you've got yourself a genuine masterpiece.
After watching RETURN TO OZ (Walter Murch, 1985) for the 1st time, I'm glad I didn't see it as a child. How no one at Disney realised such a deeply disturbing and gloomy film could scar kids for life is beyond me. Might hold the record for highest number of heads without a body😂
Watched LEGEND (Scott, 1985) for 1st time in eons, and Oh Mama! 😍 I'd forgotten how gorgeous it looks. Every shot is more beautiful and weird than the last. Like a filthy rich DEFA-Märchen film that traded the socialist fable of the GDR for the abstract horniness of the West.
Curious to know what horror specialists think of this atmospheric French supernatural film that notably draws influence from ROSEMARRY'S BABY.
