In the Zeo world, Genii are extremely diverse and varied in shape and power, as well as communication.
There some like Cherente and Jemadiah who can communicate with mortals, but there are also many like Polemo and Nettis who make absolutely no vocalizations at all.

Zeo is scrunkly lil vibey fella whose main goal is satiating their curiosity, which is endless and normally overtakes any other feelings they might have

With that being said, the Smileys themselves would pretty much be the 'elite mook' slime monsters while Cherente herself would be the 'queen' of the slime monsters. (although she has no control over the slimeys, she only controls the Smileys)

They are all constructs of Cherente, however most of the slimeys were made without any purpose, and some are just Smileys that became disconnected from Cherente somehow and went feral as a result.
Some slimeys were even people before Cherente conducted experiments on them.

The Slimeys are based on various slime monsters in jrpgs, being starting enemies that are easy to defeat, but more variations appearing later that are harder to defeat or have gimmicks. Later ones become more resistant to physical attacks.

The eyes and/or eyelashes of the Smileys are rarely symmetrical, this is because Cherente is not a perfect artist and makes mistakes sometimes when drawing them

Zeo is a repurposed combination of the main antagonists, Areo and his master Alter, from my old scrapped story where Jonah was the main character.
