Josep Tapiró i Baró (1836-1913) was a Catalan artist who specialized in extremely detailed watercolor portraits. In 1871 he visited Morocco for the first time. His best known works are the beautiful portraits he painted of people he encountered there.

Salvator Mundi, an unfinished painting by Albrecht Dürer, circa 1500. It's a fascinating opportunity to look at the master's art process--you can see his incredibly detailed underdrawing with only some of the layers of oil paint glazed over it.

Portrait of Pieter Verdonck by Frans Hals, 1636.

Verdonck was apparently well-known for being argumentative, with some saying his jaw slew more people than Samson did with the jawbone of an ass. So Hals depicts him wielding one!
