They were both sent to a men’s prison where Lucy was banned by court order from wearing women’s clothing.
When they were released, they were prohibited from moving back to where they’d lived before, so they moved to LA where Lucy died in 1954, aged 68.

Kalpana was an Indian-born American astronaut & engineer who was the 1st woman of Indian origin to go to space

In 2016, Suaad Alshleh (14) arrived here w/ dreams of being a doctor. She & her parents had fled Syria in 2011 & relocated to the UAE before seeking asylum here. They spent 9 mths in a Direct Provision centre waiting for their papers, before moving to Laois

After studying in Harvard, she became ‘not only radical, but impatient’ & so she stood for the Seanad aged 25 where she tried to legalise family planning (contraception). ‘It was the only bill in the history of the Oireachtas that was never given a 1st reading.’
