Another lighthouse engineer anniversary - Robert Stevenson was born 1772. Engineer to the Northern Lighthouse Board. His biggest project, the Bell Rock lighthouse was inspired by the Eddystone lighthouse and developed Smeaton's methods further.

We are taking part in the campaign. Week 1, A is for atmospheric railway. Here are unique water colour views of the line along Brunel's South Devon railway. One side of the line is upside down as they are designed to be viewed from the side.

Sir Benjamin Baker was born 1840. Bridge, Aswan Dam and Metropolitan Railway. He also designed the boat which transported Cleopatra's needle.

John Rennie's Southwark Bridge opened 1819. Originally called Queen Street bridge, the centre span was said to be the longest cast iron span ever built, at 240ft (73m). It was replaced in 1921 as it was too narrow to cope with the growing traffic.
