The Bell Rock lighthouse was first lit #onthisday 1811. John Rennie was engineer but it was Robert Stevenson who designed the lighthouse and spent 4 years on site during construction. The design was based on Smeaton's Eddystone lighthouse.

S is for Southwark Bridge. These images show John Rennie's bridge, opened 1819. the cast iron bridge had three flat arches supporting a 42 ft wide roadway. Its centre arch was the longest of its kind at that time. It was replaced by the current bridge in 1921 #BridgeAZ

Our building in Great George Street opened #onthisday 1913 although the corner was not added until the 1930s. Designed by James Miller, a steel frame is hidden beneath the masonry.
