John Rennie's Waterloo Bridge over the Thames opened #onthisday 1817. It was replaced by the current bridge in 1942 and various parts of it survive. We have the central span keystone on display.

Another lighthouse anniversary - Robert Stevenson was born #onthisday 1772. Engineer to the Northern Lighthouse Board. His biggest project, the Bell Rock lighthouse was inspired by the Eddystone lighthouse and developed Smeaton's methods further.
