A boyish look was made popular throughout the 1920’s and helped create an open-mind to the future of androgynous looks. Shorter haircuts, flattened chests and shapeless figures contributed to the idea of the ‘IT’ girl.

The Belle Epoque was a time of creative innovation and was when the women’s first tailored suit was created. Only the jacket was tailored and a draped skirt would be worn. It challenged societal power and hinted independence for women in the future.

A-line skirts and dresses became very common within the era of the 40’s. Despite the ever-changing hem lengths, knee length was brought back. Shoulder pads were also in dresses and jackets for a boxy shape along the shoulders.
