Wonderful tour of @burrellcollect last night including tapestries, art and sculpture. I hope they’ll remember how to date a tapestry and how to spot a Boudin painting.
A wonderful painting from my recent visit to the @UffiziGalleries Madonna and Child with Angels by Filippo Lippi c.1445. A move away from the stiff Byzantine style of work to a more human and accessible interpretation. Absolutely beautiful. #arthistory

A wonderful insight provided by the Raphael Exhibition @NationalGallery Manet used figures from Raphael’s engraving of The Judgement of Paris (1515) in his famous work Le Dejeuner sur l’herbe from 1863 because the French Salon held Raphael in high esteem.
3/4 The Pieta is a name given to the depiction of the dead Christ being held by his mother. It is found more in sculpture than paintings. Here are some examples. Buy yourself a copy of Easter in Art or watch out for a repeat on @SkyArts 👇#arthistory
2/4 Only three talking heads who were all knowledgeable about western art and the Christian story of Easter so very easy to watch. There were several artworks I’d never seen before so I’ll have to add them to my artworks to visit list. #arthistory
