Surprising how ahead of its time this movie’s portrayal of Pachycephalosaurus is.

Given they probably weren’t exclusively herbivores, I can see them having occasionally going after live prey like this. Would love to see more films and shows do something similar.

@Iamtiredmoo Hell, we actually almost got human-dinosaur hybrids for the fourth movie. It was one of the ideas for a Jurassic Park IV that never got made. You can actually find the script for it online.

Here are some of the concepts for the hybrids. They’re fucking crazy.

This iconic fight scene was animated by Wolfgang “Woolie” Reitherman, one of the Nine Old Men. He was also responsible for the chase scene with Monstro the Whale in Pinocchio (1940) and the battle between Prince Phillip and Maleficent as the dragon in Sleeping Beauty (1959).

The highlight of these scenes has to be the epic battle between the Stegosaurus and the Tyrannosaurus rex.

While the two species never really coexisted, this scene is still staggering in its sheer brutality and how it captures the size and weight of these creatures.

And the animators succeed in making them feel totally believable. While the designs of the dinosaurs are no longer accurate, their movements and behaviors still make them feel like real animals. And the low camera angles give them a sense of truly massive, towering form.

In particular, the scene showing the evolution of vertebrates is especially well done. The screen transitions smoothly and succinctly illustrate the major evolutionary steps from jawless fish to the ancestors of tetrapods. It’s a great example of animation’s endless potential.
