@LPWLeeds @JTuckerAnimator @nickfil @TENapolitano @EthenBeavers @ManPaul Hope you enjoy it. And you might want to check out these recent projects, too!
@neilkleid Yes! A great Captain America story is often about the GAP between the American dream and the American reality. For instance, the time Cap knelt before Black Crow as symbolic gesture of atonement for Native American genocide.
If I could petition the comic book gods, I’d ask them to finally(!) collect my first Spectacular Spider-Man run and my Doctor Fate run (the mini and the ongoing that followed it). I’d also love to see new editions of two former Vertigo projects: Blood: A Tale and The Last One.
Today is also Gil Kane's birthday. Kane is right behind Kirby in my comic book pantheon: a brilliant storyteller whose work radiated both grace and power. From Green Lantern to the Hulk, Spider-Man to Conan—and so many more—he was one of the true masters of the form.
So many great creative minds guiding JUSTICE LEAGUE/JL UNLIMITED: Bruce Timm, @JTuckerAnimator, Stan Berkowitz, Dwayne McDuffie... A freelancer couldn't go wrong with those guys in charge.
I was amused and delighted to see the nation of Bialya referenced in WW 84. 30+ years ago, as a joke, I named the country after a bialy (a traditional Jewish bread; like a bagel, but softer)—and there it is in a major motion picture. The gods of Yiddish are surely smiling.
The upcoming BATMAN: DEATH IN THE FAMILY Blu-ray includes two shorts I wrote ("Death" and "Adam Strange") along with a Sgt. Rock short (written by @iamtimsheridan, @WalterSimonson & @LouiseSimonson2) featuring The Creature Commandos, one of the first series I created at DC.
Today is also Jack Kirby's birthday. Without Kirby's storytelling genius, there probably wouldn't be a comic book business today—and all of us who toil in the fields of imagination owe him an incalculable debt. Happy Birthday, Jack...wherever in this crackling cosmos you are!
I take a look back at the origins of MOONSHADOW:
