Well that's all for writing about chapter 2. It mainly works to set up the characters in the present-day and kick off the story. Chapter 3 is when the journey begins.
The first thing teen Puffer does is try and fail to impress her mom. Pretty much sets the stage there for first impressions.
That scene contrasts earlier with the scene of Clarissa and her dad, who have a much healthier relationship because Wallace does not feel the need to demean Clarissa when correcting her.
This attitude even worse regarding Puffer. Now that she's not a little baby and has more of her own thoughts and feelings, Sharon is decidedly less nice to her daughter.
Puffer lives a fairly irregular life, being the child of a genius who wants to conquer the world. So in terms of worldbuilding Clarissa shows us what a more typical life is like here. You get the idea that ship towns are very communal.
