Sergei Prokofiev–whose life was so overshadowed by Stalin's actions–died 1953, the same day as the Soviet dictator. He lived near Red Square, & for three days as the throngs gathered to mourn Stalin, it was impossible to carry the composer's body to his own funeral service.
