John Milton was nearly 60 when he published Paradise Lost (1667). Blind since 1652, he wrote his epic poem entirely via dictation & also while he was often ill with gout, & grieving the early death of his 2nd wife, & the loss of an infant daughter.

HAVING YOUR BUMPS FELT merges the pseudoscience of phrenology & quack medicines of the mid-C19th & C20th. Such cure-alls sought to redress general & specific physical imbalance or implied social inadequacy, notably targeting 'women's problems' or 'hysterical women'.

Wow, the Paula Rego exhibition was really powerful heady stuff. I was surprised at how large some of the pieces were, & enjoyed being able to hone-in on details, symbols & some truly accomplished mark-making.
