No Blade of Grass (1970) A global pandemic (sounds familiar) forces a band of survivors to leave London in search of sanctuary. There’s plenty of amoral violence but the narrative is muddied by flashback/forwards & polluted stock footage. Tired Western cliches fill the final act.

Terrible news about Richard Sala. Such a fabulous cartoonist.

Assault (1971) Cruddy exploitation where a host of TV actors spout inane chatter under a bombastic soundtrack. From schoolgirl titillation to creepy male chauvinism there’s plenty here to make the skin crawl. This is juxtaposed with a farcical final act full of LOL absurdity.

Tower of Evil (1972) Archeologists in search of treasure on a mysterious island are set upon by its deranged inhabitants. Traditional gothic horror spiced up with a bit of nookie and Mary-Jane.

The Mutations (1974) Mad scientist (wid zee accent) splices human and plant DNA to horrific effect. Tom Baker struggles under latex as a Carny mistreating his Freakshow charges. There’s a decent rubber monster but by the time it appears the film has betrayed it’s promising start.

Frightmare (1974) On today’s Jeremy Kyle show: Pig’s Brains no longer satisfy my Stepmother’s cannibalistic urges and she has turned to murder by luring susceptible women to torot reading sessions. Now, I’m worried my half-sister is following in her footsteps.

I Don’t want to be Born (1975) Joan Collins gives birth to a dwarf cursed child, who gets off on punching noses and pushing Nannies into duck ponds. Donald Pleasence tries to add some dignity to the proceedings but ends up getting his head chopped off with a spade. Not a spoof.

The last four fictional characters in your camera roll are your undead apocalypse squad. Will you survive?

Guess who gets eaten first?
