Pretty sure I fell in love a little bit tonight! I’d like to think if I had seen Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain (1983) as a child, that I would have been cool enough to watch it over and over again. Impossible to choose a favourite character or scene, a non-stop crazy ride!
Really appreciating the simple things lately. A walk in the sun with my daughter, to see some chickens, ducks and a goose at an allotment nearby is a something I am very grateful to be able to do. I have even named a favourite duck 😆 introducing Lady Snowblood...
Bleak viewing, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance (2002) completes my well overdue quest to watch Chan-wook’s vengeance trilogy. Elegant cinematography frames the spiral of bad decisions, cruel twists of fate, revenge and bloody violence, culminating in a devastatingly satisfying fashion
I watched Park Chan-wook’s incredible Oldboy many years ago...so it’s about time I saw Lady Vengeance (2005) a layered film of revenge, beautifully shot, moments of humour and the contrast between violence and classical, often serene music - exquisite
Night of the Demon (1957)....needed more demon, I mean come on, he is magnificent! I don’t care what critics or anyone says. I like him. The rest of the film was pretty great too - atmospheric, tension-building, beautiful b&w cinematography, utterly charming.
So utterly charming,I can’t stop smiling.Leptirica (The She-Butterfly, 1973)a wonderful Yugoslavian folk-tale TV movie of a vamp-like creature. The villagers add an element of comedy and Radojka is sigh-worthy pretty. I fear I will be haunted by the call of Sava Savonavić tonight!
Well, what can I say?!! 😂 I honestly don’t think words are needed....just a few images, because to me that’s what this film is...a non-stop, crazy, surreal, phenomenal feast for the eyes....utterly adorable!
Kang Yoon-sung’s The Outlaws (2017)has put a big smile on my face. Based on the true story of a turf war, this movie does not disappoint for a second, with action, violence and humour. There is something very special about Ma Dong-seok who shines with warmth, strength and attitude
Hostiles (2017) made me gasp, swear and cry a bunch. An emotive score, scenes of anguish, despair and brutality gut punched me. The cast is perfect. Bale as Capt Blocker is ordered to escort dying Cheyenne war chief home to be buried. His journey from hatred to hope blew me away
