For Saturday - four killer images of Smaug wreaking havoc on Lake-town. From the top it's Jiří Šalamoun's Guernica revisited (1973), Michael Hague's study in smoke and flame (1984), Laima Eglïte's dragon Blitz (1991) and Denis Gordeev's classic mega firedrake (1992) #Tolkien
Revealed - the truth behind Sauron's jewellery obsession...#Tolkien #YoungSauron

@jonashstn I often find ghosts are better implied than depicted literally, but I am fond of Inger Edelfeldt's portrayal (c.1985). I also like Joan Wyatt's classical-style shades (1979), and Victor Ambrus' phantom warriors from A Tolkien Bestiary (photo to come sometime soon)
MERP illustrator Gail B. McIntosh had a distinctive approach to ghosts and the immaterial in her #Tolkien pics. Here's two tangible yet transparent phantoms from the 1985 Erech and Haunted Ruins supplements. Note the Renaissance stylings of the swordswoman and the blond stick guy
Its stars again at seven as the famous Star of Fëanor (c. 1954) by #Tolkien meets the same star reproduced in Хранители (1982) before morphing into the star signifying the second of seven swans sent by Ulmo in Tuor Found the Shield by Sergei Iukhimov (1991). More to come...(7/7)
