It's stars all round for number six as Eärendil's device by #Tolkien (c. 1960) encounters a Pennsylvania Dutch Hex sign common to Berks County (re-painted c.1970s) only to be transformed into the compass rose by Karen Wynn Fonstad (1981) from The Atlas of Middle-earth (6/7)
At number four I present an elegant medieval-inspired paragraph ornament by Edward Johnston in Writing & Illuminating & Lettering (1908) up against the lovely decorative frieze featured in the illustration Glorund sets forth to seek Túrin (1927) by our man #Tolkien (4/7)
Tonight - Riddles in the Dark continues...adding a little colour to Gollum's cheeks. Btw I like to think those long years spent under the mountain have lent his hair a lovely dank and mouldy green hue 💀#Tolkien
And tonight - a little #Tolkien sketch in progress...
🪓Bombur prepares for the battle!🥧
Stay tuned for colourful bits...#Hobbit
It's Friday, so why not have a little Gollum?
"Sweet dreams my Precious..." #Tolkien 💀
@jonashstn @davidmckeown28 Here's two I really like (for different reasons) - Inger Edelfeldt's To the Stone of Erech (c.1984) and Sergei Iukhimov's Paths of the Dead (1989)
Happy #NewYear2022 my friends and it's a good night to you all from Bag End as Hobbit-after-my-own-heart Bilbo Baggins momentarily fails to respond to his unexpected Dwarven guests in Slovakian artist Peter Klúcik's delightfully odd 1990 image #Tolkien
I often dream of a Christmas adaptation of The Hobbit. It could be traditionally animated (stop-frame folks!) or brought to life by character actors inhabiting festively lit settings akin to the shimmering Wilderland depictions of Latvian illustrator Laima Eglïte (1991) #Tolkien
"It might have been mine. It should be mine. Give it to me!" Ring-crazed kawaii Boromir finally cracks under the strain...#Tolkien #LordOfTheRings
