@Manruss and @stevepughcom did the unthinkable. They took The Flintstone's, mixed them with the social ills of our times, and created something you could only do in comics. Yes, those Flinststone's. I won't even try to describe it, you just need to read it for yourself.
If you haven't read Sheltered yet, you need to fix that ASAP. @edbrisson and @j_xmas made something really special here. Years later I'm still thinking about these characters and how everything played out.
Jillian Tamaki (@dirtbagg) is one of my absolute favorite artists/writers. This One Summer and SuperMutant Magic Academy are both incredible and highly recommended, but don't sleep on Boundless. So many amazing stories in here that will stick with you.
#NTYCBD is back once again, and so am I with some more hidden gems to check out. Let's start with Nowhere Men by Eric Stephenson, Nate Bellegarde, @whoajordie, and Fonografiks. An immersive sci-fi experience that could only be a comic. Those ads throughout were amazing too!
@PanelSyndicate is a place for some incredible comics that I can't recommend enough. Brian K Vaughan and Marcos Martin have created a great new way to buy and read some phenomenal books like The Private Eye, Universe by @AlbertMonteys and Blackhand Ironhead by @davizlopez
I worship at the altar of Vertigo and I'm constantly trying to track down series. Luckily the first part of @annienocenti and @seanpphillips Kid Eternity has been collected. It's just the kind of Vertigo madness I love and cherish and Phillips like I've never seen.
Another Wednesday another round of #NTYCBD recs. Lets start with The Last God by @PhillipKJohnson, Riccardo Federici, and @sunnygho. It's epic dark fantasy that is incredibly immersive and plays with so many of the tropes and fresh and inventive ways. One of the best books out!
@RaynardFaux is a huge inspiration to me. Not only are they also from the DMV, but they've put out some the most original and thought provoking comics of the last decade. Prince of Cats is a must have, must read. And Spike is going to adapt and direct it?
@richiepope is an incredibly talented artist and storyteller. That Box We Sit On is such a simple (people underestimate how hard simple is to pull off) and poignant comic and his other work is just as good. Check him out and grab some comics!
Okay I'm back with a few more, starting with @DAYGLOAYHOLE. Your Black Friend and Other Strangers is one of the best comics I've ever read and speaks to me on such a deep level. And he just released a new book Sports is Hell which I just ordered and can't wait to read!
