Enjoyed an emphasis on more side characters like Miura and the ever-cute Totsuka... he's even seen wearing a gakuran-style uniform, so cute! As always, Mr. Watari manages to write a character who makes non-stop references (with his "eighty thousand" man) in such a natural way. /2

Although Kawasaki is on the cover, I think that this story was mostly a Yuigahama-centric story. We get to see her fluffy, bright demeanor and how it brings together the rest of the characters for their romp in student activities /1

"Then the boy who had once died meaninglessly in another world made his grand declaration. '...Just for now, I'm king. So obey me.'" This book felt much more like a fantasy novel than the rest,/1

Haruhi's aforementioned foil, Sasaki - a proclaimed childhood friend to Kyon, part of the Tengai Ryōiki - might be a romantic rival in the future. She reminds me of Yūki from "To Heart 2", it's interesting to see what another reality-altering teenage girl will cause in the plot!

Kyon's quote in Vol. 8 acts as a cliffhanger "The reality portrayed in the book was far more ordinary than the one that surrounded me." The plot thickens, there is a direct foil to Haruhi and more extraterrestrial characters!
