Haruhi's aforementioned foil, Sasaki - a proclaimed childhood friend to Kyon, part of the Tengai Ryōiki - might be a romantic rival in the future. She reminds me of Yūki from "To Heart 2", it's interesting to see what another reality-altering teenage girl will cause in the plot!

Kyon's quote in Vol. 8 acts as a cliffhanger "The reality portrayed in the book was far more ordinary than the one that surrounded me." The plot thickens, there is a direct foil to Haruhi and more extraterrestrial characters!

Focuses on Yuki's backstory, as well as what Tohru's mother told Kyō about her past. It felt jarring because a (semi-filler) school episode is sandwiched in-between 2 stories that are devastatingly depressing!
