"The Melancholy of Mikuru Asahina" is one of the most poignant plots in the series - it not only alludes to the extra-dimensional "Agency", but it also conveys an alternate, more mysterious layer to Asahina. Her more mature side, in regards to the woes of time travel, on display.

"Reality is cruel but also simple." While the concept is engrossing, every conflict relies solely on Tanya (ex-salaryman becomes a ruthless militaristic child-mage solider) and "her" quest to try and get one up on Being X ("God").

Fascinating read - before Rebuild, prototype Mari is a little girl that is a genetically-altered, cat-human hybrid. Very nice action sequences, Super Eva dual-wielding the Kesara and Basara blades is just beyond cool.
