These movies you're showing were all done with traditional 2D animation and "same face" with the intention to spend more time on other elements. You also picked the 3 early heroines most similar to each other in design intentionally. Some examples from later Studio Ghibli movies: https://t.co/ndsXZ0Yvhg

is garbage for having a sexualized and stereotyped Indigenous character named BUFFALO WING (but its okay, they shortened it to BW!), but I just found out they reblogged this fanart of her to their official Tumblr: (TW for alcoholism) https://t.co/7BgZLBLgZq

Not to mention, non-Indigenous people have turned Indigenous ppl into mascots. They draw physical traits of us exaggerated to the point of derogatory imagery, intended to dehumanize us while also bringing in the profits for those who create/sell them. 12

Dani Moonstar of X-Men. She was designed/created by non-white creators in 1982 & wouldn't be written/portrayed by Indigenous ppl until last year. Her outfit has more of the stereotypical native clothing (corded hair, buckskin, feathers, warpaint.) Gets whitewashed frequently. 4/

First off, let's look at some depictions of Indigenous people in modern media (comics/cartoons/film). I picked these ones because I can go more into depth on why they aren't good rep, but not as the ONLY examples. 2/

If you're looking for dark-skinned natives in media, read my comic Sixth World! Its about Dinora Redhorse, a young Dine woman that lives on Mars with her grandmother. Its a comic about Indigenous futurisms, power suits, and giant bugs! Issues sold @ https://t.co/kzyVMWJIUZ

Hayao Miyazaki also directly references the Emishi people in the film, Princess Mononoke. They are even lesser known than the Ainu and were known for their horsemanship, archery, and cultivation of millet and rice. One of the main characters, Ashitaka, is a banished "prince".

Last thing: I read some of the wiki and the character names/back story for the Patch Tribe has: a spirit named Big Chief (yikes), whose design is once again mishmashing different tribes and the tribe must convert to the religion of Shaman King (stinks of colonialism, yikes).
