Can I be a member of the #NobodyArtistClub ? I'm an autistic graphic design grad/storyteller who draws as he pleases, sometimes based on my autistic experiences, sometimes mediocrely!
Back-to-back double-featuring two animated films I've never seen before, 'West and Soda', and 'The Point!' About 15min into 'The Point!', I wouldn't be surprised if Pendleton Ward was inspired by this when coming up with 'Adventure Time'.
Quite something how two of the biggest classic video games/game series took inspiration from Popeye. Pac-Man w/ the power pellets being inspired by spinach power in the 'toon adaptations, and Donkey Kong being made after Nintendo initially couldn't get the rights to Popeye.
Been re-watching some early aughts Disney animated films lately. One thing I'm quite digging in them lately is their peculiar dance with a greyer sense of morality, which makes them all the more fascinating, on top of being pretty different (for modern Disney) kinds of stories.
Contrast that with what the Hanna-Barbera series was allegedly going to be like. Carl Wilson is strangely depicted as an over-eater (when in reality, it was Brian during this period), Dennis is into kung fu... There's a funny animal sidekick or two. It's... Something.
Appreciation post for this, imo, overlooked comic relief character. Also, I think Gideon's character design is just perfect. The right mesh of funny animal and lavish Golden Age Disney detailing.
