Dinosaur-aged rocks from Kansas are notably devoid of dinosaurs because Kansas was covered by an ocean while dinosaurs ruled on land. Our few #dinosaur fossils are mostly "bloat and float" - they died on land, bloated with gas, then floated to sea.
Tylosaurus nepaeolicus is the middle child of tylosaur #mosasaurs from the Smoky Hill Chalk of Kansas. It is middle in body size, stratigraphic distribution, and phylogenetic placement - sandwiched between T. prorigor (big boi) and T. kansasensis.
