Today's #ootd is another Lanvin creation. This one is a 1926 day dress made of white organza and decorated in an ombre red and orange colored yoke and applique circles on the hem. The illustrated fashion plate is even more whimsical. @ChristiesInc #Fashionhistory
She didn't come off great in the book "Devil in the White City," where they mention she had arguments with the building's architect, Sophia Hayden, as Palmer wanted her to accept donations of various odds and ends by wealthy women. The building was said to be a success though!
Here are the paintings that they reference to compare this bodice with- 1. Titan's "La Bella" and Rossetti's "Veronica Veronese. However, it is also still very much in style with Edwardian fashion, mainly the Aesthetic movement.
#HappyInternationalWomensDay, everyone! For #ootd I choose a dress by one of my favorite designers- Jeanne Lanvin. It's her 1922-3 robe de style for Spanish actress Cátalina Bárcena. She made many clothes for her both for the stage and her real life. @V_and_A #Fashionhistory
Today's #ootd is this 1890s dress. The front is open to reveal a white floral pattern on burnt coral silk, while the rest drapes over it almost like a coat. The back is so excellently tailored it reminds me of a robe a l'anglaise! @KerryTaylorAuct #fashionhistory
Today's #ootd is this 1850-55 evening dress. @philamuseum writes that the fabric's pattern was quite saucy for the time, as it referenced Watteau's seductive painting, The Swing. The image was made by combining 2 paintings by Jacques-Philippe Le Bas (1 in pic 4). #Fashionhistory
Today's #ootd is another example of an Indian textile imported by England. There it was made into this robe a l'anglaise in 1775. Instead of dye work, the amazing technical skill shown here is the embroidery. Thanks to @lacma for these lovely close up pics! #fashionhistory
Compare it to some of her sketches. (The dress is now at #GalleriadelCostumediPalazzoPitti).
Today's #ootd shows you don't have to have a 15" waist to wear beautiful dresses. This satin gown was worn by Queen Wilhelmina in 1912 and then altered later in 1923 for the 25th anniversary of her reign. She was the Queen of Netherlands from 1890 to 1948. #FashionHistory
This week's #FridayFrills is this 1910 Callot Soeurs evening gown of bright yellow satin covered with metallic and silk tulle and decorated with embroidered floral designs in metallic and silk thread. So elegant and gorgeous! #lesartsdecoratifs #FashionHistory
