Martin seems to have been bouncing back from a low point in 1840 — but still! https://t.co/wybQWCo536
@StrangeIreland Oh man, the Roy Mackal dinosaurs in King Kong-grade stop motion would be a premium experience!
@VxnxmXxx @TylerGreenfieId Morzer-Bruyns seems to have been familiar with that species, at least enough to take photos of it
These two aren’t as comparable— an armored whale and pinniped adapted to semi-abyssal dives. Maybe… these are both adaptations to avoiding Megalodons, apparently still around in this universe?
A good side by side of speculative WHALES! The Many-Humped is a cousin of Basilosaurus whereas the Super-Otter branched off from earlier, still-quadrupedal whales. Both of these are supposed to be humongous, roughly the length of Blue Whales.
@StrangeIreland Ooh, I’ll have to see if there’s some way of capturing that special feel of Lough monsters, or at least the illustrations in Creatures from Elsewhere.
@StrangeIreland @TetZoo @c_n_anderson The Lawndale Thunderbird is a good example of witnesses actually *seeing* incorrect (if not outright cartoonish) vultures. Damn! I should save this for the tree!
@TetZoo Finally! I love that this species always needed two illustrations for “some reason” (e.g. the 2018 Encyclopedia of Marine Mammals) and *plot twist* the now two species apparently overlap in coloration!
