My (so far) favorite pieces of 2019 but I’m actually proud of a good majority of my work this year.
Tempted to do some Christmas cards in a similar style to these pieces or like a 12 Days of Christmas thing inspired by these kitschy vintage Christmas cards
Not sure I’ve shared these redraw of a car ad from the 50s featuring Miss Jeanne of #heartbreakhotel
Look at the car! It’s decent looking!
Read Heartbreak Hotel on #webtooncanvas for vintage fashion, vintage cars, and maybe some dead bodies.
I kind of want to do a few and redraw a few but here’s one 2009 vs 2019.
K sorry thought of a few more. Do yourself a favor and just look up his work. It’s phenomenal. I can’t decide which I’d want to hang up on my wall.
It’s this ideology that drew me to using Gruau’s men as inspiration for our main man Benjamin for Heartbreak Hotel. His character is based around the man he depicts and how he’d fit into the world of espionage and politics of Heartbreak Hotel.
He captured the masculine figure and pairs it perfectly with fashion. There’s only one other artist who manages this as well as Gruau if not better and that’s Leyendecker (a topic for discussion another time).
But what makes these amazing is the sheer sexuality and nudity.
His work was inspired by Traditional Japanese art as well as French artwork at the time. He had the most amazing grasp on form and knew how to showcase the fashion he was drawing to really make it stand out. Like are you looking at these??? INCREDIBLE.
Okay. While I wait for my laundry, how about a little history and inspiration?
I do replicas of my favorite vintage illustrations to help get a feel for the period, and this is a personal favorite based on the hands down best fashion illustrator
Rene Gruau

If you were wanting a wallpaper for your phone of vintage murder baby here you go! This was one of my favorite panels I did for the comic.
