Almost 5 years ago, the #HeyArnold Jungle Movie came out.

I storyboarded on the movie and did this piece for fun during the excitement leading up to the premiere.

What does an animation Art Director do?

We turn storyboards (panel 1) into final shots (panel 4) by guiding design and color artists through their creative processes.

These beautiful forest drawings wonderfully imagined by Background Designer, @chohatt, were truly brought to life through lighting by the #BigCityGreens Background Painters.

Light is magic.

Another aspect of the new forest scenery in #BigCityGreens was for the forest floor to be uneven and rough, often sloped and scattered with bushes, rocks, ditches, and other natural elements.

I wanted it to be wildly organic compared to the paved city environment we're used to.

Cartoon forests are often drawn flat because it's HARD to draw the depth of trees and foliage.

But I guided the design team to show the ground plane receding in space so the audience feels the full atmosphere of the forest.
