Speaking of CN stuff, I don't get why HBO Max LA can has a much bigger selection of CN shows than we do. Like, where's Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken, Megas XLR, Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi, et al. on our HBO Max? 😩

29: Usagi and Makoto pair well as comedic love-struck comrades, Reika was a compelling character, cute Kunzite/Zoisite scene, Zoisite tricking Tuxedo Mask, expressive goofy faces, lotta great moments! Though it once again points out how ick Mamoru is for dating a middle schooler

Revolutionary Girl Utena celebrated its 25th anniversary a few days ago, and since it's been a few years since I last watched it, I started rewatching it at the pace of about one episode a day, and wanted to make a thread to note down some of my thoughts revisiting each episode!

28: I really liked Usagi encouraging Yumeni to be confident in how she looks and her saving Tuxedo Mask this time! A big throughline in this arc is Usagi needing to prove she's a capable leader and this was a great showcase for how much she's grown and how capable she really is.

27: Beyond having the iconic Ami eating a hamburger photo meme, Ami's friendship with Ryo and consoling him about his future was sweet. I also appreciated seeing one of the great youma being reached out to and brought back to their senses by someone they had a connection with.

26: This episode has both WTF moments like Rei pinching Ami to force her to agree with her and the Priest's monster form being a boxing demon (?) and sweet moments like Umino saving Naru and the beautiful scene transition while Usagi listens to the music box. The SM experience!

25: Makoto has the best intro of the Senshi so far. We see so many sides to her; her being a total badass, someone who likes cute things and cooking, and a total romantic who crushes on anyone like her ex. Unlike the others she isn't introduced with just one focal character trait

22: I feel both bad for and frustrated with Naru falling in love with a jerk like Nephrite who's just manipulating and using her. I'm with Zoisite that he's all pomp and bluster. I don't really get what she sees in him, so I just can't buy into how desperately she's in love here.

21: The friendship between the two animators was sweet and I related to Hiromi's imposter syndrome, but man, the Gemini youma were a total waste. The Senshi don't have to do anything to break up their supposedly tight relationship, they basically defeat themselves. Felt unearned.

20: Best ep yet, and it had nothing to do with the Dark Kingdom plot! Sakiko was compelling and had cool powers and Ami recognizing she was lonely and reaching out to her as someone who was once similarly alone was really sweet. The cowardly hotel staff monsters were a hoot too!
