Making a thrall is an accepted part of being a thanomagus. Importantly, though - thralls must be deactivated once their use has been fulfilled! If the mage walks too far away and the thrall still moves, it will more than likely simply become aggressive.
The Everking was just meant to have bizarre and enigmatic language. Fact is, I got his opening dialogue from The Eric Andre Show. I honestly think that works just fine.
